C-reactive protein test

C-reactive protein test

The CRP blood test detects inflammation from infection, injury or chronic conditions and helps monitor treatment, with a high-sensitivity version used to assess heart risk. Through our network of accredited hospitals and specialists in India, we help international patients access accurate testing and expert interpretation.

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Testing in India

The C-reactive protein, or CRP, test is a simple blood test that detects inflammation in the body. CRP is a substance made by the liver that rises when there is inflammation, whether from infection, injury or a chronic condition. Because it responds quickly, the test is a useful, sensitive way to flag that something is going on and to track how it changes over time.

What it measures

CRP levels climb in response to inflammation anywhere in the body. The test measures how much is present, giving a general signal of inflammatory activity. It does not say where the inflammation is or what is causing it, but it tells your doctor that the body’s inflammatory response is switched on.

Why it is done

Doctors use the CRP test to help detect and monitor infections, to assess inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, to check how well treatment is working, and sometimes, in a more sensitive form, to help gauge cardiovascular risk. It is a versatile and widely used marker.

Standard and high-sensitivity versions

There are two forms: a standard CRP test for detecting and tracking notable inflammation, and a high-sensitivity (hs-CRP) test that picks up much smaller changes, used particularly in assessing the risk of heart disease. Your doctor chooses the version that fits the question being asked.

The test itself

It is a routine blood test needing only a small sample from the arm, usually with little or no special preparation, and results come back quickly. This makes it a convenient way to get a fast read on inflammation and to repeat as needed to follow a trend.

Interpreting the result

Because CRP is non-specific, a raised level is a prompt to investigate, not a diagnosis. Your doctor interprets it alongside your symptoms, examination and other tests to work out the cause, and may use repeat measurements to see whether inflammation is settling with treatment.

How we help

When inflammation needs investigating, accurate testing and thoughtful interpretation matter. We connect you with accredited hospitals and experienced specialists in India who can run CRP and related tests, place the results in context, and arrange any further investigation, so you get clear answers efficiently.

We are a medical facilitation service, not a healthcare provider. All medical care is delivered by the accredited hospitals and qualified specialists in our network. Treatment suitability and outcomes are determined by your treating doctors.
